Post #6 - Reflection on own teamwork and communicaton throughout CG1413 and CG1102

Throughout the semester, the tasks and projects given to me for both CG1413 and CG1102 were rather challenging but manageable. It is through these tough times that I realized the importance of teamwork and good communication. Without teamwork and communication, completion of the tasks at hand was near impossible. Thus, it is important that we master both teamwork and communication and continue to practice them not just in NUS, but in the working world as well.

For CG1413, my group decided to increase the awareness that diet change have an impact on global warming. For the success of this project, teamwork was very vital. There were many solutions that we wanted to implement and it was important to distribute the tasks at hand. Posters were to be designed, surveys to be printed and completed, interviews to be conducted and a facebook group to be created. Besides that, we decided to make displays so as to further increase the awareness level of the above topic. It was also essential that we get permission to put up our models at high traffic locations. Thus, after much discussion and evaluation, the tasks were distributed according to our group members’ strengths. I helped distribute the surveys and posters in the hall I stayed and I did all I can to help create the displays.

Communication was important too. It was essential to acquire the necessary tools to make the displays and we made sure that group members brought the required tools. We also communicated through email to decide our next meeting so that we can finish up on the displays we were creating. As I was conducting the interview, it was important for me to practice good communication with the interviewee. Communication was also essential for our oral presentation. We had to ensure that we do not repeat the points that other group members have already mentioned.

For CG1102, my group had to hand up weekly lab reports on the progress of our project. Every lab was different from the previous week and we sometimes had difficulty trying to complete the report on time. Teamwork wise, for every lab, it was essential that we distribute the work evenly and early on in the week so that everyone had time to complete their assigned tasks. Although our group managed to distribute the work evenly, we did not do that early on in the week but somewhere in the middle of the week. Thus, this resulted in some last minute work and our group burnt quite a significant amount of midnight oil. Our group communicated quite well too. We evaluated the possible solutions to the problem and decide on the final solution to the respective problem. We then split the work and went back to work on the solution. If there was any problem, we communicated through email and helped each other solve the problem.

Throughout this semester, I learnt many different skills that are priceless. Although this project has come to an end, it does not mean that I do not continue to practice good communication skills and teamwork. We must continue to practice theses skills as this will help us significantly when embarking on future projects.

Hi Micheal,

I can see that you have learn some good teamwork and communication skill during your projects for both CG1413 and CG1102. For your CG1413 group projects, i can see that your team put up quite a huge effort on that. The effort your team put in must be the result of good teamwork to do the diet change campaign in school. From your team presentation i can see that you involve quite a lot of tasks during the diet change campaign, and i m very impressed.

For your CG1102 projects, i think that burning the midnight oil is bad especially working in team. You should set deadline for the job to be done so that the project can be complete in time.

By the way, good luck for your final exams.

Hi Michael,
I also really think that the tasks and projects for both CG1413 and CG1102 were huge! Without the teammates I do not think I could not do anything haha.

Besides, you were really good at building displays, and I appreciate your enthusiasm! You were able to come to every meeting we conducted, which I could not do.

Yes, although this module will end soon, we have to work harder, really harder...

Cheers,
Duy

Hey Michael,
I completely agree with the above comments. You have definitely improved your communication skills. You have not only shown improvement in writing reflections but also in presenting before the class confidently. Congratulations on that!
You have brought up the problems you faced and how you resolved those problems in your reflection pretty well.
How you learned from your mistakes and what teamwork has taught you is evident from your post.
From your conclusion, it seems you have realized the importance of effective communication and teamwork very well. I appreciate this.
I had a great time working with you on the problem solving project.
Good luck for the forthcoming exams.

Cheers,
Geetika

Hi,
As a fact, your entry is very complete when you show all your weaknesses and difficulties you faced throughout the course and how you improved those problems.

I also see from your post that how the problem solving project and the CG1102 project taught you, both communication and team work skills. Well done!

Just one thing I feel you can improve your reflection. It is better if you can tell us more about your OWN progress after each presentation or meeting.

I had a great time working with you. Wish you best luck for the forthcoming exams.

Cheers,Duc

Hi Micheal,

I found that your post surmised the difficulties we faced in the CG1102 and CG1413 projects in a concise and accurate fashion. Also you listed the process of the projects and how good communication skills were employed to overcome the various challenges.

From your post it seems that only did you learn about communication skills, you were able to apply them to the projects and overcome the various difficulties.

while I would have liked to read more about your personal growth as a communicator throughout the module, I have witnessed several good practice you adopted during our CG1413 project.

One such practice was giving constant constructive feedback during the projects. While often overlooked, a simply reply to an email allows the sender to know his message has been received and acknowledge. This allows work to proceed more efficiently and is also a good practice in maintaining working relationships.

It was a pleasure working with you on the CG1413 project and I wish you all the best for the Finals!
